JobMine Ranking/Matching Rules

theseer:

If you have been ranked, but do not have Offers:

  • For the highest probability of being employed, rank all jobs “1”

If you have one or more job Offers:

  • To secure employment with your preferred job, rank that Offer “1”

If you have job Offers & Ranks:

  • To secure employment, rank one of your Offers “1”
  • For a higher probability of being employed with your preferred job if it is not an offer, rank it “1”, and then rank all other jobs to indicate your preferences (Note: this may be at the expense of not gaining employment)

Matching Algorithm

  • Employer and student ranking numbers are summed for each student-job. Any jobs left blank by students are automatically assigned a value of “9”.
  • A random number is assigned to each student-job ranking combination.
  • The algorithm looks for the lowest sum (“1”+”1”=2), with the lowest random number. If both the student and the job are still available, the student is then assigned to that job and the number of available openings for that job is reduced by one.
  • The matching algorithm then continues to look for the next lowest sum with the lowest random number, and so on, until all potential matches take place

But the best thing to do ‘if you have job Offers & Ranks’ but want a job that you were ranked for, instead of one of the jobs that you were offered, is to go see your co-op advisor. Yep, seriously. Well, not Janet Metz, if she is still there, but whoever the co-ordinator is for the job that you want. They can see everything. And if they are nice, they’ll look at the job you want, see where you were ranked, see what the people above you are ranking the job, and let you know your chances. Now, of course, those people ranked higher than you could always change their mind before the deadline. But, it’s worth at least trying to get some information. And you know who you were interviewed with, so it helps if you know the person who got the offer, and know they aren’t taking the job.

Laurier just sent me an email asking me to do a 5 min survey and if I completed it I would be entered to win a $250 gift certificate to Best Buy. I went to the website and read the terms (‘cause I do that sort of thing) and saw that the sweepstakes are only available for residents of the US. Oh Laurier, I don’t really believe you think that most of your students are American, details just aren’t very important to you.

I have some invites. Let me know if you’re interested.

If you’re a random person on the internet looking for an invite, you must prove your character in a 1000 word essay on your character, a phone screen, and an in person interview. ;)

please? :)
